Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page is at loggerheads with his neighbour over their plans to build a basement under the garden behind the 76 year old former rock star’s Grade I listed mansion in Holland Park (an area whose present and past residents include Elton John and the Beckhams).
Another neighbour is Robbie Williams with whom Page has also had a run-in over planning matters when the former Take That singer planned to build a basement at his £17 million property. Given land values in Holland Park it seems a number of people want extend their houses in this manner. By comparison to Robbie’s gaff, Jimmy’s is only estimated at £12.5 million.
In both instances, Page was concerned that, according to his planning consultant (nice work if you can get it), the construction of the basements would cause vibrations, ground movements, and geotechnical issues adversely impacting on his property, described as one of Britain’s finest examples of French Gothic architecture (or like something out of The Addams Family, depending on your viewpoint.)
