Gnome Island

A Derbyshire council is due to consider whether to rename a roundabout in Ilkeston.

Erewash Borough Council’s’ planning committee have been asked to agree that the Nottingham Road roundabout be named “Gnome Island” following an on-line petition.

According to the council, the island “captured the imagination of locals when gnomes started to appear there”.

Geoffrey Smith, Erewash Borough Council lead member for planning said, “This may be one of the more light hearted items we discuss-but that’s gnome bad thing”
